WASHINGTON (TNND) — President Donald Trump is celebrating a significant legislative victory with the passage of what he calls the “One Big Beautiful Bill,” marking his first major legislative win of his second term. The bill, passed by Congressional Republicans, includes $4.5 trillion in tax cuts, reductions to social safety nets, and an increase in the national debt limit.
“When you go over the bill, it was very easy to get them to a yes,” Trump said. “We went over that bill and point after point, biggest tax cut in history, great for security, great on the southern border. Immigration is covered. We covered just about everything again, it’s the biggest bill ever signed of its kind.”
The legislation now awaits the president’s signature, with a ceremony scheduled for Friday at 5 p.m., according to the White House.
Despite the legislative success, public support for the bill remains low, with only 27% of people approving of the president’s signature domestic policy bill, according to a Quinnipiac poll.
In addition to the bill, Trump is highlighting other achievements, including more than 140 executive orders aimed at rolling back diversity and environmental programs and enforcing stricter immigration policies. His administration’s aggressive measures have led to mass deportations and enhanced border enforcement, with the White House reporting a 93% decrease in daily border encounters and a near elimination of migrant crossings.
“My proudest legacy will be that of a peacemaker and unifier, that’s what I want to be, a peacemaker and a unifier,” Trump said on his first day of his second term.
Trump has also faced challenges. He promised to end the war in Ukraine but hasn’t followed through. New data from VoteHub shows 51.6% of Americans disapprove of his performance.
