The second season of 1923 wrapped up with its finale over the weekend. And naturally, fans are starting to wonder: Will there be more? After all, stories rarely wrap up neatly with a bow in the Yellowstone universe. And given the slow-burn pacing and still-unresolved threads this season, it wouldn’t be unreasonable to expect at least one more chapter in the saga of Cara and Jacob Dutton.
But here’s the catch: 1923 was originally presented as a limited series, much like its predecessor 1883. So while season 2 came as a welcome surprise, another renewal hasn’t yet been announced. Even so, the show remains one of Paramount+’s most successful original series, and it’s clear there’s still a strong appetite for more Dutton family drama.
So what does that mean for 1923 season 3? Here’s everything we know so far.
Is 1923 season 3 happening?
There’s no official word yet from Paramount+ on whether 1923 will return for season 3. At this point, the future seems unlikely—but not impossible!
Actor Brandon Sklenar, who plays Spencer Dutton, addressed the show’s trajectory in a 2023 interview with The Hollywood Reporter. “I think of it as one piece—there’s just a split in the middle, but it’s all one piece,” Sklenar said. “It will conclude.” He also added that the series is “still limited,” which seemed to suggest that season 2 would mark the end of the story. (But the latest deaths, cliffhangers, and dramatic plot twists seem to suggest otherwise!)
Adding to the mystery, Paramount hasn’t confirmed that season 2 is the end, nor have they ruled out continuing the story with a third season. And with viewership reportedly stronger than ever this time around, there’s certainly an argument to be made for keeping it going.
For now, we’ll have to wait and see how season 2 wraps up. There are still two episodes left—and if we’ve learned anything from Taylor Sheridan’s shows, it’s to expect the unexpected.
