West Virginia men’s basketball coach Hot Board v. 1.0

For the third time is as many offseasons, West Virginia men’s basketball is searching for its next coach. Darian DeVries, who the Mountaineer hired on March 24, 2024, is expected to be named the head coach at Indiana after one season in the Big 12. He succeeded Josh Eilert, who spent one season as the interim coach following the abrupt exit of Bob Huggins in 2023 after 16 seasons. 

The Mountaineers join a growing crowd of teams looking to hire a coach, and business is about pick up. They’re no stranger to the process of prioritizing  candidates, lining up interviews, cutting the list and reaching a conclusion. We have once again had some conversations around the campus, sport and industry to ask questions, take recommendations and craft a list of realistic possibilities. We’re presenting our most educated, most informed guess at what one might look like on athletic director Wren Baker’s desk. We’ll continue to update this as the search develops.
