You (hopefully) aren’t the only one getting an early start to the weekend with the day off of work on the Fourth of July.
However, with most people getting the day off, there are many services that won’t be available on Friday. While most retail stores will remain open on the holiday, almost all public services will be taking the day off.
Here’s what will be open and closed on July 4.

Government services
The majority of federal, state, county, and city offices will be closed on July 4. That includes courts.
Emergency services will continue to be available.
Mail and packages
The U.S. Postal Service is closed for the holiday. UPS says it will be largely closed. FedEx offers select services, but most of its services are shuttered.
Public schools
Most Minnesota schools are closed for summer vacation. However, most summer programs and sports are not taking place on the holiday. Check with your local program to confirm.

Metro Transit
Metro Transit buses and METRO lines follow holiday schedules and have weekend/holiday fares. Northstar service will not operate on July 4, with the exception of service for the Twins game.
Metro Transit’s Information Center, customer relations, lost and found, and downtown service centers will be closed.
Parking
Meters in Minneapolis and St. Paul will not be enforced. Similarly, the University of Minnesota does not enforce meters on the holiday.
Banks
It’s a Federal Reserve holiday, so banks will be closed. That includes Citibank, Wells Fargo, Bank of America, Affinity Plus Federal Credit Union, Huntington Bank, and U.S. Bank locations.
Malls, grocery stores
Most retail locations, grocery stores, and malls remain open on the holiday, though some may have reduced hours.
