When are AP scores available? Here’s how to find Advance Placement exam results

Even though school is out for summer, Advanced Placement students are finally getting their exam scores back ahead of the 2025 fall semester.

Advanced Placement Programs are offered at schools across the country. They serve as an opportunity for high school students to earn college credit during high school, so long as they earn a certain score on the AP exam at the end of the course.

Iowa has a high percentage of students scoring a three or higher on AP exams. In 2024, 70% of students achieved this mark compared to the national average of 65% of students with a three or higher on exams.

How many Iowa students take AP exams?

Until recently, Iowa had low participation in AP programs. This is partially due to the state’s large rural demographics, according to the Iowa AP Index.

Iowa saw growth in the number of high schools that offered at least one AP exam from 2001 to 2023. In 2001, 156 Iowa schools offered at least one AP exam. This grew to 190 by 2023. However, Iowa saw this number decline to 177 in 2024, according to the Iowa AP Index.

Regardless of the number of schools offering the AP test in Iowa, more Iowa students are taking the AP exams. In 2001, just more than 4,000 students took at least one AP exam. By 2024, this number grew to more than 12,000 students.

When do AP scores come out in 2025?

AP exam scores will be available starting Monday, July 7.

The exact time will vary depending on where you live in the United States, according to the College Board’s website. In the past, scores have often come out at 8 a.m.

How to access AP scores

Students will receive email notifications when their scores are ready.

This year’s AP score results may be accessed online through the My AP account on the College Board website.

What Iowa schools accept AP courses?

Colleges and universities vary on what AP scores are acceptable for college credit.

Iowa’s Regent University and certain private schools accept AP courses to replace certain college classes, depending on a student’s exam score. To find out which AP courses qualify for college courses, use the AP Credit Policy Search.
