MASTERS
Masters Tournament 2025
Will this be the year Rory McIlroy breaks through at the Masters?
McIlroy sits atop the 2025 Masters leaderboard at 12-under through three rounds of golf, with a two-stroke lead over Bryson DeChambeau (-10). Only 18 holes at Augusta National separate McIlroy from a green jacket on Sunday, which would mark his fifth major win overall and first since 2014 if he’s victorious.
The Masters is the only major that has eluded McIlroy in his career. His best finish came in 2022 when he finished as the runner-up after shooting a bogey-free 64 in the final round. He missed the cut in 2023 and followed it up with a disappointing T-22nd place finish in 2024.
He has won every other major — PGA Championship (2012, 2014), U.S. Open (2011) and The Open Championship (2014). If he’s able to win a green jacket, McIlroy will become only the fifth golfer to win the Career Grand Slam, joining Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus and Tiger Woods, who last accomplished the feat in 2000.

How did Rory McIlroy fare in third round?
The 35-year-old Northern Irishman got off to a hot start on Thursday at 4-under through the first 14 holes, but disaster struck and McIlroy carded two double bogeys in the final four holes to finish even on the day. He shook off his mental lapse on Friday and recorded a bogey-free 66 on Friday to bring him to 6-under on the tournament, marking the sixth bogey-free round of his career at the Masters.
McIlroy kept the good times rolling on Saturday. He opened the third round with three birdies and one eagle through six holes, marking the first time in Masters history for a golfer to begin a round with six consecutive 3s. Sloppy play lead to bogeys on hole No. 8 and No. 10, but he rebounded with a birdie on No. 13 and an eagle on No. 15.
