Warning – this article contains major spoilers for The White Lotus’ season 3 finale

The White Lotus season three has finally come to an end this Sunday (April 6) on HBO, with thousands of loyal fans already tuning in.

As more viewers catch up on Mike White’s smash-hit satirical drama, one thing about this week’s season finale, Amor Fati, has become obvious – a major plot point doesn’t add up.

In this year’s outing, a risky revenge scheme has played out as Rick Hatchett (played by Walton Goggins) traveled to the White Lotus resort in Thailand with his girlfriend, Chelsea (Aimee Lou Wood).

However, he was secretly planning a visit to Bangkok to meet up with his friend Frank (Sam Rockwell) to confront the man who supposedly killed his father, Jim Hollinger (Scott Glenn).

After meeting with Jim and his wife, the resort’s owner and former actress Sritala (Lek Patravadi), under the false pretense of making a film together, Rick intimidates Jim with a gun before heading back to the hotel.

It’s there where things start to escalate as Rick hadn’t banked on Jim and Sritala returning to the hotel themselves. When he’s threatened by Jim to leave the resort, he instead decides to grab Jim’s gun, shooting him dead.

A distraught Sritala then reveals Jim was actually Rick’s father, before a shootout ensues and she orders security guard Gaitok (Tayme Thapthimthong) to take out her husband’s killer.

Chelsea is tragically caught in the crossfire and killed, before Gaitok musters the courage to shoot Rick dead while he’s trying to carry his dying girlfriend to safety.

While the latest White Lotus finale proved to be one of the most explosive episodes of the hit drama yet, fans have been left questioning why Rick decided to return to the resort in the first place, knowing there was a good chance Sritala and Jim could be there.

One fan took to a Reddit thread to sarcastically complain: “Yeah let’s go back to the hotel owned by the guy I just pushed over in his home.”

To which someone else replied: “THIS! That made no sense to me. Uh, time to checkout!”

Fans were fuming when Rick decided to stay another night in the hotel

Another viewer agreed: “The fact that he spent the night too lmao. Like I get going to grab Chelsea, but finishing out your stay? Really?”

“Truly bizarre,” someone else said. “What gave him that confidence? He knows Hollinger has hella guards.” And another added: “That part doesn’t make much sense tbh.”

Over on X (formerly Twitter), fans had the same thought, with one posting: “Rick staying at the hotel made no sense and him finding out it was his father was meh.”

And another added: “It really makes no sense that Rick and Chelsea were even still at the hotel tbh.”

However, another Redditor argued: “It’s in line with going to the same hotel chain where a man met and murdered his wife.”

And others felt the decision was in line with Rick’s character, as another user commented: “Shows how self absorbed he was in his revenge, it fits that it didn’t even cross his mind.”
