WNBA’s Latest Brittney Griner Update Is Troubling News for Atlanta Dream

In This Story

The Atlanta Dream are looking to keep their winning streak alive heading into Thursday’s road matchup against the Chicago Sky at Wintrust Arena. The Dream have won three in a row, and they will be hoping to make it four consecutive victories when they take on an 8-21 Chicago side that has already confirmed that Angel Reese will be out again for Thursday’s contest.

The Dream, however, are also dealing with an injury on their end as well, with starting center Brittney Griner still nursing a neck problem.

After missing two straight games due to a neck injury, Griner is now in serious danger of sitting out again on Thursday. This is after the WNBA provided the latest update on the nine-time All-Star’s condition.

“Griner is set to miss a third straight game due to a neck injury Thursday. With the star center unlikely to be available, the Dream are set to depend heavily upon Brionna Jones and Naz Hillmon in the frontcourt,” the WNBA’s report read.

It is worth noting that Griner was listed as doubtful ahead of Atlanta’s game against her former team, the Phoenix Mercury, on Friday, August 1, and she ended up missing that matchup. She appears to be headed to a game-time decision again for Thursday, but this latest update does not bode well for her chances of suiting up.

The Dream have not provided too many details on Griner’s neck issue, but what is clear is that they’re not forcing the 12-year veteran back amid her health concerns.
