Young Scooter’s cause of death has now been revealed after he died on his 39th birthday.

The rapper, whose real name was Kenneth Edward Bailey, died last month after suffering a leg injury while running from the police. The Fulton County Medical Examiner has now revealed the leg injury was the cause of his death.

Young Scooter’s death was the result of a “penetrating injury of the right thigh” caused by wooden fencing or debris, which led to significant blood loss, the medical examiner’s office declared. The musician had been taken to the Grady Marcus Trauma Center in Atlanta but was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

An investigation was launched into the circumstances surrounding his death. Atlanta Police Lieutenant Andrew Smith delivered a press briefing on Friday to share more details on the situation.

He explained how authorities had responded to a call involving a dispute with a weapon at a location. The caller claimed “seven guys” were staying at a home and selling drugs.

“He’s beating her bloody. He’s dragged her back in the house,” the caller said. The 911 call was later determined to have been a hoax as officers only found Young Scooter and another man inside.

During a standoff, a man slammed a door in police officers’ faces. Following this, police established a perimeter around the residence. They later observed two men fleeing from the back of the property.

Smith added, “Just to be very clear, the injury that was sustained was not via the officers on scene. It was when the male was fleeing.” The man who was with Young Scooter has not been identified and has not been accused of any wrongdoing.

It is still unclear why the two men ran from police. Following Young Scooter’s death, there was speculation he had been shot but the Fulton County Medical Examiner and Atlanta Police Department confirmed this was false.

“While we understand that many people are saddened by his passing, it is important to recognize that Atlanta police officers neither discharged their firearms nor used any force against Mr. Bailey,” police said in a statement.

Demetria Spence has been arrested in connection to the fake 911 call. In a statement shared on X, the Georgia Bureau of Investigation said, “Demetria Spence was taken into custody by the Atlanta Police Department and charged with Transmitting a False Public Alarm under O.C.G.A 16-10-28, subsection (d)(2) ‘If serious bodily harm or death results from the response of a public safety agency.”
